According to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, the Montana University System’s $1.8 billion budget has been approved by The Montana Board of Regents for the next fiscal year.
The approved budget is a 10% increase from the previous year. The increase is primarily due to a boost in support from the state, tuition revenue and carryover from the previous year.
According To Deputy Commissioner for budget and planning in the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education Tyler Trevor, the tuition revenue increases are largely due to higher tuition costs and student enrollment growth. Trevor says, “A lot of that comes from non-resident tuition and to be frank, a nonresident tuition increase at Montana State university.” He continues, “what’s different this year from other years Is the University of Montana is also increasing so we’re seeing more of a compounded effect.”
Also, during the meeting Trevor reported that the Montana University System is projecting a one percent decline in undergraduate resident students for the current fiscal year.
