GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A Box Elder man was arraigned last week in U.S. District Court in Great Falls on a felony assault charge.
Kelcey James Morsette, 40, pleaded not guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Morsette was indicted by a Grand Jury on the felony charge back on June 4th.
Court documents state that on November 14th, 2019, in Box Elder, Morsette intentionally assaulted a woman resulting in serious bodily injury.
Morsette’s arraignment was delayed several times. He was not present at a scheduled arraignment on July 16th and was in tribal custody at a rescheduled arraignment on August 11th. He was taken into federal custody on December 8th.
If convicted of the most serious crime, Morsette faces a maximum 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
Morsette was detained pending further proceedings. A jury trial is tentatively set for late February.
The FBI and Rocky Boy’s Police Department investigated the case.
