Chinook boys’ basketball finds itself (2-3) out of the Christmas Break. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Bill Bell to ask his impressions of the team early on in the season.
“The season so far has been up and down,” Bell said. “Though we’ve also got a few conference wins that were big and key.”
“More wins than last year, actually,” Bell continued. “So that’s a good thing.”
Bell’s first test back is a road game at Rocky Boy. He discussed how the defense must contain Aeron Gopher, the team’s best player, who averaged 27 points in the two games he played against the Sugarbeeters last year.
“More or less trying not to leave him with any open shots,” Bell said. “As most people know, he can knock it down from anywhere on the court.”
“We’ve just got to make sure to get a hand up and somebody (is) boxing out when he does shoot,” Bell continued.
The Beeters will follow that up with a home game against Choteau. Bell said it’ll be all about mindfulness when it comes to getting back in the swing of things.
“Lots of conditioning, as always,” Bell said. “(We’re) preparing them mentally for what these two conference games are going to be about, too.”
“Choteau is going to be big and strong,” Bell continued. “We know that.”
The Chinook boys’ basketball game with Rocky Boy will be on Friday night around 6pm with Noah Friedman on the call. The Beeters will play the very next day around 4pm against Choteau at the Floyd-Bowen Gym with Kyle Leeds broadcasting. Both contests will be available on KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com.
