Chinook’s boys’ basketball team played scrappy all the way until the end of last season, making it out of districts at the last minute and not being shut out at divisionals. The nucleus of the that team returns for second year head coach Bill Bell, who spoke with New Media Broadcasters about the overall vibe his Beeters are showing so far as practices began late last month.
“We’re hoping that the holes that were created as a results of graduation and transfers, we’re hoping that returning starters and those that have participated in varsity are going to fill them,” Bell said. “We’ve been working toward that.”
“We’ve been doing a lot of conditioning and a lot of our drills to start the season are conditioning-based also,” Bell continued. “We’re working in our conditioning, but also our drills at the same time.”
Chinook’s first test will be against Cut Bank on the road. The last time the teams played, the Sugarbeeters had the last laugh, beating the Wolves at the Northern ‘B’ Divisional by double digits after being swept in the regular season. Bell said what he will want to see from his improved squad on court to open play.
“The best measure would be how we play to start the first quarter and how we finish the fourth quarter,” Bell said. “Just to see if we can execute the things that we’ve been going over in practice.”
Chinook’s boys’ will start the doubleheader with Cut Bank. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm on Friday and a feed will be available on KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com.
