The Chinook High boys’ basketball team routed Cut Bank this past Friday night by the score of (65-30). New Media Broadcasters got a concise but important message from head coach Bill Bell about his team’s performance against the Wolves.
“Very balanced scoring and overall, pretty good defense also,” Bell said.
The team will now set its focus to the Shelby Coyote Classic coming up this weekend. The first opponent is against Eureka, the same opponent the Beeters opened up with last year at this exact tournament. Bell said his team is trying to look forward, but does remember last year’s nine-point defeat to the Lions and said how his team will try to flip the script.
“We know we’re going to go up against a tough one in Eureka,” Bell said. “We try not to look back backwards. We try to look forwards, but we do try to remember the team that beat us.”
“We’re just trying to build upon what we did this past weekend rather than worry about what happened last year,” Bell continued.
Bell and the Sugarbeeters will then play against Belt, a perennial contender year in and year out in the Northern ‘C’. Bell shared what practices have been looking like ahead of their challenge with the Huskies.
“Well, Belt’s always tough. They’re usually at state in basketball and football,” Bell said. “So, how we’re going to prepare is try to focus on what is we’re trying to do on offense and defense and whatever happens, happens after that.”
Chinook boys’ basketball will play against Eureka at 9am on Friday and take the court against Belt on Saturday around 3pm. Both games will be in Shelby as part of the Coyote Classic.
