CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – The free will Chinook Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held next Thursday at the Blaine County Fairgrounds Commercial Building.
Betty Billmayer is one of the organizers, and says they are still looking for some volunteers.
“We’d be happy for help. We’ll plan on about 200 (meals), that’s what we’ve done the last few years with the deliveries and in-house. So that’s what we’re planning. If anyone would like to help, we’re happy for help. We’ll be setting up the day before, then we’ll be working starting at about 8 AM on Thanksgiving day. So if people would like to help, they could sure call me and let me know what time or what they’d like to do.”

This year’s dinner is in honor of Dorris Hamilton, who Billmayer says was instrumental in making the event a community staple.
“She has worked on the dinner every year for several years. She use to be famous for making the gravy. The last few years, she made pumpkin bars to go in the take-out meals, a pumpkin dessert. And Dorris passed away just a few months ago. We just wanted to honor her for all her years of help.”
For the second straight year, they will be serving a ham dinner, in part because it is easier to prepare than the traditional turkey dinner.
People can eat their dinners at the Fairgrounds, take them to-go, or get them delivered. Dine-in will be from noon-2 PM, while deliveries began at 11 AM.
Deliveries are for those living in or just outside of Chinook. Those interested can call the Senior Citizens Center at 357-2648 or Kathy O’Brien at 357-2937.
