The Hill County Health Department was notified last week that a horse in the county was confirmed to have West Nile Virus. Kim Berg Chief Health Officer for Hill County explains what West Nile Virus is.
“West Nile Virus is a virus that’s transmitted from mosquitos to other mammals. Actually, it’s usually mosquitos to birds, but humans and horses can be an accidental host to West Nile Virus. We do not pass it from human to human or horse to horse. We did have a horse test positive yesterday; we got the results. So, we have a positive West Nile Virus horse in Hill County.”
