Chinook Football Getting Ready For Season Opener Against Powerhouse

Chinook’s football team is anxious to get out on the field and prove that the squad is much improved from 2023. New Media Broadcasters caught up with Sugarbeeters coach Mike Jones and he again stressed the depth of his team and how that will be a key to winning games this season.

“(There’s) a lot of excitement,” Jones said. “We’ve got a lot of guys. I would say we have some depth this year.”

“A lot of guys are excited to get out on the field and, even if it’s just one or two sides of the ball (on) special teams, offense, (and) defense,” Jones continued. “They’re excited and I think we’re going to have a lot of depth and a lot of kids flying around, playing in different positions.”

The task will not be easy on Friday night as the Beeters will have to deal with two-time 8-man state appearance team Belt. Jones said what kind of effort it will have to take to defeat the Huskies in front of the home crowd.

“They’ve been in those games for the last couple of years, so what it comes down to is execution,” Jones said. “Can we out-execute them? They’re physical. They’re a good team. They’re well-coached, so can we out-execute them and make sure that we stay fresh at certain parts of the field?”

“If we can do those things, like I told the boys, I can never promise a win,” Jones continued. “But, if we execute and go out there, we’re going to be right there in the game with them.”

Jones and his Chinook football team will be ready to go on Friday night, taking on the Belt Huskies. Kickoff from Hoon Field is scheduled for 7pm and you can listen to the game on KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com with Noah Friedman calling the action.
