(Chinook) MSU graduated some of the lowest amount of teachers ever this past school year, and that trend is reflected in some local schools with Chinook Public Schools Superintendent Fred Hofman telling us that while they aren’t on a shortage of teachers yet, they’re set up to have a shortage come next school year.
This is something that Hofman says is because, at least in part, due to the harsh treatment by the public that some teachers face.
“You’ve got fewer people going into education and some of that I think is unfortunately because teachers get beat up all the time. You know [someone would say] ‘oh you’re teaching my kids about inappropriate things’ [said in response] No, I’m not. Just because California does something doesn’t mean we are. So, teachers take an unfair beating, and when young professionals, people in college, are choosing their careers and see the beating that our teachers take it’s like why do I want to get myself into that?”
