The Chinook High wrestling team had champions and placers galore at the 2024 Havre Invitational over the weekend. New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Ben Stroh and he was elated by the performances his kids gave on the mat to open the season.
“All in all, man, I was impressed with them,” Stroh said. “I mean, I was smiling when we got on the bus Friday and then obviously having the champions we did.”
“I wanted them to come out and wrestle hard and show what we’ve been working on and have attitude on the mat,” Stroh continued. “That’s exactly what I saw.”
“We could’ve had zero (wrestlers) in the finals, but the way those kids wrestled, I was all smiles,” Stroh said.
Stroh and his Beeter wrestlers will have a new challenge ahead of them this week when they hop on a bus heading east to Glasgow. Stroh continued to preach staying the course and said what came of this weekend will need to be a priority in practice before meet day and beyond.
“Well, I obviously want to keep the same attitude on the mat,” Stroh said. “Like I told the kids, ‘You guys are doing your part. Now, it’s time for us coaches to do our part and be able to work with you individually.'”
“There’s something powerful about being able to individually pick and choose what you’re teaching each kid,” Stroh continued. “(Let’s) keep picking up these hard fought wins here moving into Glasgow and farther on into the season.”
The 29th Annual Scottie Invitational runs from Friday to Saturday starting at noon each day and Chinook wrestling will be there to continue the great start to the season.
