The Chinook wrestling team has had a couple of weeks to think back on its performances at the CMR Holiday Classic down in Great Falls. Head coach Ben Stroh told New Media Broadcasters that that tournament is a preview of what’s to come atmosphere wise for the Sugarbeeters and said a specific domino has to fall into place for one of his programs.
“I couldn’t be happier with the girls’. They did great (and) took care of business,” Stroh said. “It’s what we’ve been expecting of them.”
“I think once one of the boys’s steps over that threshold and gets himself on that podium, I think all of these kids are just going to follow suit,” Stroh continued. “But right now, they’re all just matching up with each other.”
“They’re doing well and they’re moving forward, but we need that one leader to step out amongst their peers,” Stroh said.
Stroh and the Beeters will ease back into competition as the new year rolls around, going to Harlem for a mixer. Stroh said recovering from the CMR tournament and coming back has been a lot of about fundamentals. Having the ability to put those to use in a low-pressure setting will have a better outcome of how to turn up the intensity as the season progresses again.
“That’s the big thing I’m stressing with my kids right now is just, ‘Continue to evolve your game. Don’t stick with what you’ve been doing or else you’re going to get the same result,'” Stroh said. “We have to move forward. We have to try these new things.”
“‘Even if you’re not comfortable, even if you give up points, just try them’,” Stroh continued. “‘At the end of the year, you’ll be comfortable enough with them and they’ll start giving you the points that they should give you rather than mess ups for not being comfortable doing it.'”
The Harlem Mixer got moved up to Friday and that is where Chinook Wrestling will be for its next competition.
