(Havre) – The Havre City Council met for their regular September Meeting on Tuesday night at City Hall, on first reading, the council approved a change to the city’s fireworks ordinance that would increase penalties for those breaking the law to $500 for a first offense and $1,000 for a second offense. The ordinance still needs to pass a second reading at the October council meeting.
In other business, the city assessed a special property tax against eight properties for violation of the city’s nuisance weed control ordinance. The city also approved a draw for the Havre Water Project and approved a grant application for phase three of the water line replacement project.
Next, the council opened a hearing on the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. After minimal discussion, the meeting was recessed until tonight at 6pm where they will have a detailed discussion about the FY26 budget. Public Comment will be taken and if you would like to see the proposed budget before the meeting it is available for review at city hall. This month’s city council meeting will reconvene tonight 6pm at city hall.
