HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Construction on the Bear Paw Volunteer Fire Department’s new Fire Hall, located just south of Havre along the Beaver Creek Highway, has been completed.
Bear Paw Fire Chief Josh Bebee says they are awaiting on power and need to install a boiler and have propane running through it, but he’s thoroughly impressed with how construction turned out.
“It looks great. It looks better than I could’ve imagined.”
Bebee says this will be a big benefit for the department, especially for maintaining equipment.
“Just being able to keep our equipment inside of a building instead of out in the weather. The sun and the weather and everything, it takes a toll on the hoses and fittings and everything like that. So just being able to keep everything inside, that’s going to help a great deal with breakdowns, the condition of our equipment. And just being able to have one spot where everything is centralized for call-outs and stuff. You don’t have to go chasing around for a truck. Everything will be in one spot.”
Bebee says they remain in need of funds for finishing touches, and plan on holding a fundraiser this fall.
“Hopefully we’ll be rolling that out sometime in August or September .. We’ve been putting in for a bunch of grants, but now that the building is actually up, we’re eligible for. So we’re hoping to hear back on those in the next month or two, whether we get them or not. But we’re still going to be doing fundraising and trying to do the final push to get this thing paid for.”
