HARLEM, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Transportation has announced that a culvert replacement project on a 24 mile stretch of US 2 between Chinook and Fort Belknap is now underway.
More than 20 deteriorating culverts are being repaired or replaced. A press release says this work will build a strong foundation for the complete reconstruction of the corridor planned within the next five years.
Work began on this project last week, and motorists should expect crews to begin culvert excavation between Harlem and Fort Belknap over the next few weeks. Crews will then proceed towards Chinook.
Traffic will be controlled in construction zones with signal lights and pilot cars. Work zone speeds are posted at 35 miles per hour, and travelers should expect 15-minute delays. Loads wider than 14-feet may experience additional delays.
The Ellis Road approach on both sides of US 2 will be closed until work in that area is complete.
