BILLINGS, Mont. (NMB) – USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) wants to remind producers of fall-planted crops to apply for crop insurance coverage for the 2021 crop year before the September 30th sales closing date.
Current policyholders who wish to make changes to their existing coverage also have until September 30th to do so.
The September 30th closing date applies to the following crops in Montana: fall planted wheat with winter coverage, forage production, and alfalfa seeds.
For forage production insurance this fall, the percentage of ground cover and live alfalfa stems per square foot will also be required on the Forage Production Underwriting Report as applicable, to determine insurability and type classification.
Federal crop insurance helps producers and owners manage revenue risks and strengthens the rural economy.
Producers are encouraged to visit their crop insurance agent soon to learn specific details for the 2021 crop year.
