LAKE COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Lake County Leader reports that members of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) held a Tribal Council election on December 18th.
Incumbent chair Shelly Fyant was defeated by write-in candidate Jim Malatare by a count of 939 to 476.
The other incumbent upended was Polson representative Charmel Gillin. She was taken down by Jennifer Finley 1,010 to 409.
In the race for the new at-large position, Tom McDonald defeated Dan Depoe 1,008 to 403.
All other races were won by the incumbent.
The new Council members will be sworn in on January 7th. A new chair will also be chosen, since Fyant did not retain her seat.
