WASHINGTON D.C. (NMB) – Montana’s U.S. Senators are both calling for the swift reopening of the land border with Canada to non-essential travel.
Senators Steve Daines recently sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, while Senator Jon Tester penned a letter to the White House.
Daines asked for DHS to work with Canadian officials to reopen the border as quickly and efficiently as possible, Tester asked the White House to work with Canada to develop an actionable plan on reopening the border in timely fashion.
Both Senators cited the need for cross-border travel to boost local economies that have been hit hard by the pandemic and border closure.
The U.S. Canada border has been closed to non-essential travel since mid-March 2020.
