Deer Lodge County commission deciding on cell tower installation.

(Anaconda) A popular recreation spot a few miles west of Anaconda is a cell service dead zone. But, pending a vote from the county commission, that could soon no longer be the case.

Tuesday evening’s public hearing was the latest step for a plan to potentially install a new cell tower in Deer Lodge County, in order to provide service for the area between the outskirts of town and Georgetown Lake.

Opponents of the plan worry about potentially distracting lights, as well as the tower itself scarring the beautiful landscape, but proponents feel that it’s necessary for making a popular tourism area safer.

While no official decision on the cell tower was made by the county commission at Tuesday’s meeting, it will be an agenda item and could potentially be voted on at the next meeting on Tuesday, April 16th.
