(LEWISTOWN)—The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) is opening a tract of state trust land, 2.5 miles southeast of Lewistown, for use during the Montana Muzzleloader Heritage season, which runs from Dec. 13th to 21st.
Firearm and hunting use on the tract has historically been restricted to archery and shotgun only. Starting this year, hunting with heritage muzzleloaders will also be allowed during the Muzzleloader Heritage Season.
“Updating the restriction to allow for participation in the muzzleloader heritage season recognizes the value of this recreational opportunity to the Lewistown community while still keeping public safety measures in place,” said Jocee Headrick, DNRC Northeastern Land Office area manager.
The Montana Muzzleloader Heritage Season is a special hunting season established by the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission to recognize traditional methods of muzzleloader hunting.
