Doctor Amanda Bradbury Talks Horse industry at Field Days

(NMB) The MSU Northern Ag Research Center held their field days last week. One of the presenters was Doctor Amanda Bradbury with the Animal Science Department at MSU. She talked about the Horse industry in Montana and said that Montana ranks fifth in the United States for the American quarter horse. It’s estimated that Montana has about one hundred thirty thousand registered horses that contribute to the industry. Doctor Bradbury told New Media Broadcasters which horses dominate the horse industry in Montana.

“The working ranch horse and the western performance horse really dominate in the state of Montana. And the working horses, we mean horses that are truly working the ranches and that are working cattle and working the land. Our western performance horses are those that are going and showing in those western performance events.”

Nationwide, a study released in 2023 said there are 6.7 million horses in the United States that contribute 177 billion dollars to the economy and about 2.2 million jobs.
