HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – From now through January 2nd, the public should expect increased patrols in Havre from the Police Department and the Montana Highway Patrol.
Law enforcement will be watching for impaired driving, educating motorists, and handing out tickets or even making arrests when necessary. It is all part of their commitment to keep the roads safe for everyone.
Havre Police Officer Brandon Olson provides several tips to stay safe on the roads this holiday season.
“Plan a sober driver. If you’re going to go out to the bars or family gatherings and you’re going to be consuming alcoholic beverages, plan for a sober driver home, it gets you there safely and gets everybody else that’s using the roadways from their a to b destination safely as well. Call a taxi, there are some services here in town.”
Other ways to stay safe on the roads include calling 9-1-1 to report impaired drivers and always wearing a seatbelt.
Beyond the risk of injury or death, choosing to drive impaired in Montana can result in receiving a DUI, having your license revoked, a fine of up to $10,000, and even jail time.
This is in support of the Montana Department of Transportation’s Vision Zero program that aims for zero deaths and zero serious injuries on Montana roadways.
