Farm Bureau to Address Mental Health Concerns and Farmer Stress

BOZEMAN, Mont. (NMB) – Several farming organizations have announced a partnership aimed to combat the high levels of stress farmers and ranchers often face.

The American Farm Bureau, along with Farm Credit and the National Farmers Union, are partnering to form the creation of a program to train individuals who interact with farmers and ranchers to recognize signs of stress and offer help.

This combination of online and in-person trainings is designed to provide participants with the skills to understand the sources of stress, learn the warning signs of stress and suicide, identify effective communication strategies, reduce stigma related to mental health concerns and connect farmers and ranchers with appropriate mental health and other resources.

The trainings will begin in the coming weeks and are funded by a grant from Farm Credit.
