FBI Provides Safety Measures for Zoom Meeting Hijacks

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned all Zoom users Monday, March 30 that online teleconference meetings are being hijacked all around the nation.

These hijackings are being referred to as “Zoom-bombings,” and are creating unsafe learning spaces for students and teachers.

With pornographic images, terrorizing language and hateful pictorials, conferences are being disrupted and at times brought to unprecedented halts.

To safeguard against this, the FBI has urged the public to take the following safety measures when conferencing online:

  • Make sure the Zoom meeting is private not public.
  • Make sure the Zoom link is not posted publicly but sent to recipients privately.
  • Make sure the version of Zoom being used is the updated January 2020 version as this version has added security.
  • Make sure the organization’s telework policy or guide addresses are intact for the security of your information.
