HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre’s Feed My Sheep Community Soup Kitchen is holding a rummage sale this Saturday from 8 AM-1 PM.
Supervisor-Coordinator Doris Hanson says the goal is to raise $500 in order to pay for replacing the toilet, vanity and flooring in their volunteers bathroom.
“There might be jackets, but there won’t be any (other clothes at the sale). We have air conditioners and shop vacs and kitchen appliances. Just a little bit of everything…It’s stuff that people want to get rid of, and they brought it here for us to get rid of. So yeah, nothing will be too expensive.”
Hanson says the kitchen continues to serve free sack lunches to between 30-60 people a day, with hot meals a few days a week thanks to generous donations. She says they are preparing to reopen to in-person meals on June 14th.
“We’re also looking for more volunteers, either past volunteers or somebody new. If they want to give the soup kitchen a call as to what days are needed. Looking forward to the dine-in. It’s going to be a little different to begin with. (Sanitarian) Clay Vincent is going to come over and tell us what we can and can’t do. He said just to give him a call here whenever we’re ready.”
Hanson also says she is appreciative for the work the Lions Club did to add concrete entry way and a handicap accessible ramp for the soup kitchen.
“It’s a huge concrete pad out front and it goes clear out to the street. And they redid access to the handicap ramp. Which is going to be great. We don’t always have people in wheelchairs, but some people it’s easier to motivate on a ramp than it is on steps. The Lions did that in two different work parties, and it’s going to be a great asset. Especially when we unload groceries, they’ll be able to pull right up to the steps with concrete on all sides. We won’t have to contend with the mud.”
