Food Box Giveaway to Take Place Next Tuesday

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Hundreds of boxes of food are set to be given away next Tuesday at Community Alliance Church in Havre thanks to the USDA’s Farmers to Families Program.

Pastor Munya Takawira says this will be the ninth drive they’ve held, and the community has expressed appreciation.

“The food boxes were extremely timely. We have got feedback from students that were struggling just to make ends meet. People that were laid off their jobs or were in between jobs, they greatly benefited from the food boxes. We’ve also received feedback from individuals that the food boxes made their way to Chinook, Gildford and Chester. So the food boxes, even though they are based in Havre, it’s got a far reaching impact.”

Each box will contain between 10-12 pounds of produce, 5-6 pounds of dairy, 5-6 pounds of protein and one gallon of milk.

There are rumors that the Farmers to Families Food Box program may be discontinued, so this may be the final time the Church is able to host this drive. However, Takawira says they will continue to aid the community.

“We are waiting to get feedback probably by the end of the month. But the rumors that we’ve been hearing are that the program will be coming to an end. Even though the program will be coming to an end or might be coming to an end, it does not mean that our community efforts will come to an end. It will be one thing or another.”

The drive-thru giveaway will take place from 3-5:30 PM at 925 8th Street. There are no requirements to receive food.

The Havre Police Department will help with traffic control.
