FORT BENTON, Mont. (NMB) – The city of Fort Benton has postponed their Summer Celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fort Benton’s largest annual event was scheduled for June 26-28.
Chairwoman Connie Jenkins says there’s still the possibility of holding a smaller scale event in late August or early fall.
“We would really scale it down maybe to one or two days and make it more of a local celebration. We usually have people come from all over the country come to visit their friends and there’s a lot of class reunions held during that time.”
Jenkins has been the Chairwoman of the Summer Celebration for the past 27 years. She says although this will be a big blow to Fort Benton’s economy, it was the right decision to make.
“It’s been very difficult to make a decision about this, but first we have to look out for the health and safety of our community. We don’t want anyone saying that they got Coronavirus at Summer Celebration.”
Fort Benton is holding a conference call on April 24th to further discuss their options for this year’s Summer Celebration.
