The first day of the Fresno Walleye Challenge took place at the reservoir just outside of town in Havre. Boats took off at 7am and fished on the water until 4pm, using the catch-and-release method. Judging was used via photography as participants took pictures of their best five fish with their camera and transferred the files to an SD card for review.
In first place after the first day of competition is Brad Novak from Helena and Hayden Gandy. They picked up an estimated 14.26 pounds of walleye, including the last catch of the day, which came out to a whopping 6.06 pounds, nearly four times better than the next best team. Ty Hinderager from Fort Shaw and Matt Fischer from Helena caught 12.42 pounds of walleye and sit in second place, while Trevor Kleppelid and Braden Rolandson from Glasgow are in third place with 11.26 pounds.
Anglers will be back out at 7am Saturday and competition concludes at 4pm with the winners crowned to follow. Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters once the results become available.
