HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Fresno Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited, along with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the City of Havre will be collecting old Christmas trees that will be sunk in Fresno Reservoir to provide spawning habitat for perch. Trees will be distributed at various locations around Fresno Reservoir in the spring by Montana FWP and the Fresno Chapter.
There will be a dedicated container for Christmas trees in Memorial Park, or the 5th Avenue Softball Complex, provided by the City of Havre. The container will be available starting Monday, December 24th for two weeks.
The trees are meant to specifically help the perch population in the Reservoir, but it will provide spawning grounds and protection for all the fish.
This will be the third year in a row using old Christmas trees for spawning habitat and eggs have been found in the trees in previous years.
