HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing to trap and transfer approximately 100-200 smallmouth bass from Beaver Creek Reservoir and Bearpaw Lake and stock them into East Fork Reservoir.
East Fork Reservoir is located within the Beaver Creek drainage upstream of both Bearpaw Lake and Beaver Creek Reservoir and is located on the Rocky Boy’s Reservation.
FWP says the bass would provide additional angling opportunities on this popular tribal fishery.
FWP will conduct assessments to ensure the bass are disease free and not carrying pathogens.
It’s expected that the smallmouth bass will be able to naturally reproduce in East Fork Reservoir and a long-term stocking plan will not be needed.
The estimated commencement date for transporting and stocking smallmouth bass is September 1st, 2022. The date could be pushed back depending on availability to easily capture the desired number of smallmouth bass.
The public comment period will conclude at 5 PM on July 17th.
