GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – Despite wild swings in the weather to start off the hunting season, hunters on the Rocky Mountain Front west of Augusta are taking home white-tailed deer above long-term averages.
A press release from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 4 says white-tailed deer harvest so far is 17 percent above the 10-year average. So far, 91 white-tailed deer have been brought to the Augusta check station.
However, elk harvest is 7 percent below the 10-year average and mule-deer harvest is 21 percent the 10-year average, with 107 elk and 63 mule-deer having been brought to the Augusta check station, respectively.
The big game general season ends Dec. 1.
