HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Governor Greg Gianforte has vetoed a bill that would have established a business task force intended to identify problems that have lead to Montana’s childcare shortage.
Gianforte vetoed House Bill 624, sponsored by Bozeman Democrat Alice Buckley. In a memo, the Governor said the flaws can be acted on now by using federal stimulus dollars allocated in coronavirus relief funds.
Montana recently received $112 million in relief funds that are allocated for childcare spending, which could be distributed in a series of grants to aid childcare providers.
The Montana Free Press reports that the task force would have been privately funded at a cost of $45,000 over two years.
