GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – The Great Falls Police Department has identified the man fatally shot by a Cascade County Sheriff’s Deputy on Saturday as 34-year-old Travis Don Sipes.
Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter says that the Sheriff’s Deputy, who has not been publicly identified, fatally shot the suspect in Great Falls after they allegedly pulled a gun.
According to a press release, on Saturday at 1:12 PM, Deputies were searching for a wanted person with active warrants that was also a person of interest in a fraud investigation.
The suspect was located by a Deputy on the 1400 block of 7th Avenue South in what appeared to be a disabled vehicle.
Slaughter says that when the Deputy was talking to the suspect, the suspect pulled a gun on the Deputy. The Deputy then shot the suspect, who succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital.
Great Falls Police are handling the shooting investigation and Dick Brown from Petroleum County is the Coroner assigned to the death investigation.
The Deputy is being placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing, which is standard procedure.
