HARLEM, Mont. (NMB) – The Harlem Civic Association is hosting an Alumni Hunger Walk this upcoming Saturday in Harlem.
Proceeds from the hunger walk, which begins at 7 am at the Harlem High School track, will benefit the Harlem Food Pantry.
Kayla Hudon, Vice President of the Harlem Civic Association, says this fundraiser provides support for the food pantry at a crucial time of year.
“This time of the year, starting into the holiday season and everything else coming in the fall, the food bank always needs a little extra,” Hudon said. “So this fundraiser for them just helps out and gives them that little bit of extra that they need.”
The previous two editions coincided with the Harlem Fall Festival, but with the festival not happening this year, the Civic Association decided to move it two months earlier so it can take place on the same weekend as the Harlem High School 100 year All-Class reunion.
The walk will take place until 9 am, with no set distance for participants to walk.
“We haven’t set a distance this year,” Hudon said. “We’ve said that the walk is going to happen from 7 o’ clock to 9 o’clock and they can walk as much or as far as they’d like. They can walk the whole time or they can just walk a little bit. It’s up to them.”
The cost to participate is $30 per walker and includes a t-shirt. Pre-registration is preferred. If you register the day of the event you may not be able to get a shirt until after the race.
Registration forms can be dropped off at Harlem City Hall, Albertsons, or 310 Central Avenue W in Harlem. They can also be mailed to Harlem Civic PO Box 742, Harlem, MT 59526.
