HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The 4th of July Festival and Picnic in Havre is likely to be canceled for a third straight year.
The cancellations in 2020 and 2021 were due to COVID concerns, but this year, it’s because of a lack of interest in organizing the event.
Woody Woodwick and Sherri Simonson have announced they are stepping down from the event committee and have been seeking replacements for months.
However, Woodwick says nobody has stepped up to the plate, and they are essentially out of time.
“This was the week that if we didn’t get somebody to step up, this was when we pretty much decided we have to pull the plug. So that’s where we’re sitting right now. Had one person interested, but they looked at it closer and it entailed a little bit more than they wanted to get involved with. So we haven’t had a very good response for people stepping up. So it looks like for this year, it’s not going to happen.”
Woodwick is hopeful the event will return next year.
