Havre Advances in State Softball Tournament

The Havre Softball Team defeated Libby (10-4) in their first game of east Class A State Softball Tournament. The Blue Ponies fell down (0-2) early in the 1st inning, the game was later delayed in the 2nd inning due to weather on Thursday evening. The game resumed Friday morning with the Blue Ponies offense exploding in the comeback victory.

Libby continued growing it’s lead in the 3rd inning, before Havre scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to tie it up. The scoring runs were a single by Hannah Gingery hitting home two base runners and an Avery Carlson solo home run. Camille Keeley knocked in the lone run in the 4th to give Havre a (4-3) lead.

The Blue Ponies went on to put the game away in the 5th, scoring four runs off a Lizzi Haney single, an Elle Verploegen and Molly Huse ground out, and an error on a ball put in play by Avery Carlson to put Havre up (8-3) going into the 6th.

After giving up two early runs, pitcher Elle Verploegen rebounded and was a key piece in the victory, throwing for all 7 innings giving up 4 fours with three strikeouts.

The Blue Ponies play Laurel at 4PM today with a chance to advance to the Semi-final game.
