Havre’s basketball teams got a rematch with Malta on Friday night, this time on the road. The boys’ took the court first and Havre hit its first losing streak of the season, dropping it, (69-63). The girls’ followed and had the same result as last month in Havre, a win, (57-39).
The boys’ (5-4 overall) finished the first quarter strong and took that momentum into the second quarter, going on a (16-5) run in four minutes. Like the last game on Dec. 17, Malta made a comeback, but this time, overtook the Ponies in the end. In a weird third quarter, the Mustangs stormed back to take the lead at (41-38) early in the third quarter, a (14-2) swing. The game took a back-and-forth theme and the lights also went out in the gym at one point as well. As it stood, the back court pressure was too much for Havre to handle. In the defeat, Tre Gary scored 12 of his 17 points in the second quarter. Dax Ostwalt finished with 15 points, while Matt Huse had 13 and Brayden Ereaux put in 12.
For the girls’ (8-1), they ran away with the contest from start to finish. After a (15-9) first quarter, the Lady Ponies extended the lead to (34-24) after the first half, led by Amaya Jarvis’ nine points in the latter eight minutes and 11 in the first 16 minutes. Havre led the game wire-to-wire and had no problems in the second half as most of the starters sat during that time. Jarvis had a game-high 17 points, while Ariana Gary finished with 14 points. The Lady Ponies only turned the ball over five times the entire night.
