The Havre basketball teams took the court at the Blue Pony Corral for the first time in 2024 and split a pair of contests with Sidney on Friday night. The Havre boys’ were upset by the Eagles, (65-55), while the Havre girls’ ran away with a (54-32) victory.
For the Blue Pony boys’ (7-2), they were down two starters in junior point guard Tre Gary and sophomore wing Kash Keller. The combination of lineups didn’t work as well for coach WaLynn Burgess’ squad as they saw just five 3-pointers drop for them on the night. Kevin Hutzenbiler led the way for the Eagles with 24 points and Chace Waters contributed 13 points. Senior guard Carter Spangler led the way for Havre with 15 and senior guard Jackson Headdress put up 13, all coming in the second half. Senior guard Shane Patascil also was in double-figures with 11.
For the Lady Blue Ponies (8-1), they took advantage in the second-quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles, (25-5). Sophomore forward Ariana Gary had a monster first half with 14 points and did not play in the second half. Junior forward Tierra Parker had a great second quarter as well, scoring 10 of her 12 points in that frame. Sophomore guard Amaya Jarvis was the third Havre player in double-figures with 11 points.
Havre will have a week off from game competition before taking the court next Friday at Custer County. Girls’ play first at 6pm, followed by the boys’ at 7:30.
