Havre Boys’ Basketball Can Clinch No. 1 Seed in Conference

The Havre boys’ basketball team is now (12-3) on the season after getting an emphatic victory over the weekend in Sidney. Head coach WaLynn Burgess told New Media Broadcasters that the focus of his team was instrumental in pulling the revenge game over their opponent.

“They came prepared ready to rock and roll,” Burgess said. “They had that one circled on the calendar for about three weeks.”

“They understood what happened before and just ran with that opportunity to go over there and did what we did to them and figure some things out on our end of coming down the stretch run and how we needed to play,” Burgess continued. “It was a really good experience for us (and) really good to see the boys locked in like they were like that, knowing that we can play that way with anyone if we choose to.”

The scene shifts back to the road for games on Thursday and Friday in Lewistown and Glendive, respectively. There is something more to play for besides closing the regular season on a high note. If the Havre boys’ wins on Thursday evening at Fergus, the team clinches the No. 1 seed in the divisional tournament next week. Coach Burgess spoke to the importance of having their sights set on their first regular season title in three seasons.

“You take a look at what has gotten us here to get this opportunity,” Burgess said. “How hard are we playing on defense? Are we playing fast on offense? Doing the little things to give you a chance to win those types of games.”

“To control your own destiny, it makes it even more fulfilling when we go and do this,” Burgess continued. “We’re just ready to go down and play a game on Thursday for sure.”

The Havre game with Lewistown will be play around 5:30pm on Thursday and the same goes for Friday’s game at Dawson County. Tune in on KOJM-610AM and HiLineToday.com for all the action.
