Havre Check Station Sees High Number of Hunters for Week 7

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 6 Officials have released the numbers from last weekend at the Havre Check Station.

Over the course of November 20th and 21st, 383 hunters in 164 parties passed through the Check Station. This is up 18 percent from last year and is 83 percent above the long-term average.

237 mule deer were checked over the weekend, the most on record for this weekend at the Check Station. It is up 39 percent from last year and 134 percent above the long-term average.

There were 34 white-tailed deer, down eight percent from last year but up 24 percent from the long-term average.

10 elk were checked, up from last year and the long-term average.

Upland bird harvest was down slightly. Pheasant harvest was down 76 percent from the long-term average, sharp-tailed grouse harvest was down two percent, and the Hungarian partridge was down 11 percent.

There were seven ducks and one wild turkey checked last weekend.
