Havre Check Station Sees Increase in Hunters

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – With warmer weather last weekend, the Havre check station saw an increase in hunters.

Over the course of November 21st and 22nd, a total of 324 hunters in 154 parties checked in. That is up 40 percent from last year and 54 percent above the long-term average.

Mule deer and white-tailed deer harvest were both above average, with 170 mule deer checked and 37 white-tailed deer checked. Also above average was sharp-tailed grouse harvest, which was up 80 percent from the long-term average.

Below long-term averages for harvest were cow elk, Hungarian grouse partridge and pheasants.

Overall, through seven weeks of the Havre check station being open this fall, total hunter numbers remain two percent below the long-term average.

Antelope season ended with 164 antelope checked, up 105 percent from last year but 37 percent below the long-term average.

Mule deer harvest is 35 percent above the long-term average, white-tailed deer harves is five percent below the long term average, and elk harvest is 11 percent below the long-term average.

Upland bird harvests are all below the long-term average, while duck harvest is up 35 percent from the long-term average.
