HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre’s City Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday night.
During the brief session, newly elected officials were sworn in. This included new Ward 4 Councilman Derek Eldridge, who won the only contested race last November by defeating Erik Meis.
Following the swearing in, Ward 1 Councilwoman Terry Lilletvedt was elected as Council President.
Proposed ordinance changes to the Havre City Code regarding qualifications for new police officers were passed on first reading. These changes would remove the upper age limit and add a residency requirement, similar to the qualifications for firefighters. If these changes are passed on second reading at the next council meeting, they will become official.
One member of the public spoke asking for stop signs to be added at the intersection of 17th Street and 4th Avenue.
There was also a brief discussion of changing the council meeting schedule to one agenda and one working meeting per month, but no action was taken at this point.
The next council meeting is scheduled for January 21.
