The Havre Northstars opened up play Friday in the Glendive Tournament, winning a battle of the bats against their host 12-10.
The Glendive Blue Devils marked first with a run in the first inning. Havre would respond in the second moving to a 2-1 lead. Glendive wouldn’t take things lightly, putting up 4 more runs in the bottom of 2.
The Northstars kept plugging at the disadvantage, adding a run in the third and 2 more in the fourth, evening the game at 5-5. The Blue Devils then opened up the offense, posting 5 runs in the fifth inning. Havre dug deep to score 7 runs in the sixth inning, becoming the final scoring in the contest and giving the Northstars the 12-10 victory.
Lane Kinsella started on the hill for Havre, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 7 runs and striking out 8. Colter Solomon gets credit for the Northstar win, giving up 2 runs in 1 1/3 while striking out 2. Offensively, Conner McKay headed up the Havre effort, going 2-5 on the day.
Havre will continue play in the tournament Saturday, with a matchup against the Billings Expos at 2pm, and returning to the field at 5p to face Lovell, Wyoming. Sunday’s opponents for the Northstars will be determined after Saturday play.
