HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The second annual blanket drive held by the Havre Elks Lodge was able to provide dozens of blankets to needy people and local animal shelters. Elks Secretary Brandy Kurtz says they also were able to provide gifts for veterans off of their Veteran’s Giving Tree this year.
“We gave out over 100 blankets, but then we also bagged up, probably another 30 to 40 blankets that are going to, a bag went to Eagle’s Manor, a bag went the Senior Citizens Center, three bags went to Havre Animal Shelter, a bag went to PAWS in Chinook and another bag went to RezQ Dogs.”
Kurtz says they were also able to provide a group of veterans with three items that they were needing.
“We took names of veterans that were in need of assistance. Something of tangible items that they would like to see for Christmas. Such as, we had people that needed pots and pans. We had people that needed socks. We had people who needed a jacket. People who needed winter boots.”
Kurtz says having two distribution dates this year was successful and they plan to run both of these programs again next year.
