The Havre Football Blue Ponies defeated the Sidney Eagles on Friday night to move to (5-3) on the season. This was the first shutout of the campaign for the defense, who head coach Jake Eldridge said played a complete game to earn the victory.
“They put in a lot of work,” Eldridge said. “They were playing with great effort.”
“Alignment assignment football is what it is,” Eldridge continued. “Kudos to our guys for stopping the run and putting them in favorable situations for us to be able to defend the pass and go after them and get some sacks.”
Two key contributors who New Media Broadcasters got to speak with after the game were senior quarterback Ciaran Courtnage and junior wide receiver/cornerback Tre Gary. Both share how they are looking ahead to playing at Fergus this week.
“I try to lead (the team) in practice and even though I’m not (usually) out there with them on Friday nights, I just try to lead them in drills and do what I can do for the team,” Courtnage said. “Be a little hype guy for (starting quarterback Griffin Terry) and just keep going.”
“Keep our heads up high,” Gary said. “We have to go in and prepare really hard and go not give these guys the first punch and get them on their feet and start going.”
The Blue Ponies will be on the road for the regular season finale against the Golden Eagles in Lewistown. Kickoff is at 7pm and can be heard on KOJM-610AM.
