The Blue Pony football team took care of business on the road last week against Sidney, putting up a (41-12) win on the road. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Jake Eldridge about how the practices that led up to the game went and he said he wasn’t surprised by the effort last week and that has been how the team has been acting all season long.
“That’s this group. They come to work every single day,” Eldridge said. “We don’t always have our best days and have our best stuff every day, but these guys don’t shy away from working hard when they come out here on the football field.”
“(When) they cross the white lines, they know what time it is,” Eldridge continued. “That’s the leadership we have with this group.”
“That doesn’t surprise me and they’ve done it every week,” Eldridge said. “We obviously expect that to continue.”
This week is rivalry week for Havre, hosting Lewistown at home. The stakes couldn’t be higher with senior night and both teams at (6-2) this season. Eldridge reminisced about his senior class, saying with the spectrum of personalities that they have been a cohesive unit.
“I think the number one thing I think about is just how close they are,” Eldridge said. “There’s tons of production from this group.”
“There are definitely some personalities,” Eldridge continued. “You get some kids who are boisterous and vocal and then you have other guys who don’t say a word, but they do their work.”
“It’s a great group because they accepted me as their head coach after that first year when they were in high school,” Eldridge said. “They bought into everything that I’ve tried to teach and build this football team into and really, they’re kind of spearheading it.”
Playing against Fergus County can be tricky. Eldridge had this scouting reporting on the 2024 Golden Eagles.
“They’re very sound. They do what they do on defense and they’re very good at it,” Eldridge said. “They’re physical and they attack (the ball).”
“Then on offense, they’ve got big play ability,” Eldridge continued. “They got skill players all over the place and they’re coached really well.”
“It’s going to be a great test for us. (I) definitely respect everything that they do,” Eldridge said. “We’re super excited that we get a rival here for senior night in the last regular season game.”
Lewistown (6-2) and Havre (6-2) will lock horns for senior night on Friday. Kyle Leeds will be on the mic for KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, 92.5 Digital Channel 3, and HiLineToday.com around 7pm.
