The Havre football Blue Ponies (5-3) are taking on their rival, the Fergus Golden Eagles (7-1) on Friday night. Havre comes off of its first shutout of the season, while Fergus beat Dawson County, (35-6) last Friday night.
Head coach Jake Eldridge said that the Golden Eagles are disciplined and shares how they are so effective, especially on the defensive side of the football, where they have only allowed 36 points all season.
“Defensively, they do a very good job of leveraging the football and not giving up big plays,” Eldridge said. “Teams have rarely gotten into the red zone on these guys.”
Offensively, the Golden Eagles have weapons all around the field. The Blue Ponies have been hampered by giving up the big play on defense. Coach Eldridge said something has to give.
“They’re good up front. They’re good on the back end. They understand their schemes really well,” Eldridge said. “They don’t do anything crazy.”
“They have really good football players,” Eldridge continued. “They live off of the big play on offense. They will run the ball a little bit, but they can punch you with their big plays.”
“We definitely have our work cut out for us,” Eldridge said. “But we’re really excited for it. We like what we see on film, and we do like how we match up. The kids are excited. The coaches are excited. We’ve been working really hard.”
The Blue Ponies and Golden Eagles kick off at 7pm on Friday night. You can hear the game on KOJM-610AM, your home for Havre High Blue Pony Sports.
