The Havre girls’ basketball team finished 2024 on a three-game winning streak, defeating both Hamilton and Butte Central to move their record to (5-1). New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Tommy Brown after the Christmas break and he said what has gone into making sure the team is still motivated after having time off to regroup.
“That’s one thing we’ve been really pleased with as a staff so far this season,” Brown said. “I feel like we have improved every day.”
“The focus is, ‘Hey, we’re going to pick up the intensity the further and further we get into the season,'” Brown continued. “I want our approach to stay consistent. That’s what we’ve looked like since those last two games.”
The Lady Ponies play one game to begin 2025 and it will be against Laurel at home. Unlike the early season opponents, Brown and his coaching staff have had weeks to view the Lady Locomotives. He shared insight into how his team can keep the undefeated tallies alive.
“The Locomotives have a few returners that we remember from last season,” Brown said. “They’ve got a couple kids that can shoot the ball really well, so we have to be prepped for them.”
“They do have a new coach that plays a little differently,” Brown continued. “We’ll be ready to go and give a good effort to come out on top. That’s what we’re shooting for this weekend.”
The girls’ basketball game between Laurel and Havre will take place on Saturday around 5:30pm. Tony Vigliotti will have the call for KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com.
