Havre Girls’ Ready to Embark on Another Postseason Journey

The Havre girls’ basketball team is riding a 7-game winning streak into the Eastern ‘A’ Divisional Tournament, which takes place in Billings this week. New Media Broadcasters spoke with coach Dustin Kraske and he said what his team has been doing well of late and what they need to do well in order to become divisional champions.

“If there are some things that we are doing well, they are working hard to keep kids in front of us,” Kraske said. “We are working hard to rebound the basketball. Our communication has improved, so there are some things we are doing better.”

“Our defense still has some work to do,” Kraske continued. “I thought our kids are working to be better at it every week. It would be helpful for us if we could find just another little click of intensity.”

The Lady Ponies will open up the tournament night session on Thursday when they play against Hardin, who they have beaten twice already this season. Coach Kraske said what a positive of playing at the MetraPark Arena is as well as the support that the community shows year in and year out to see Havre in these types of stages.

“The Metra has always been a nice venue for basketball games,” Kraske said. “To me, it’s been a shooter’s gym for us and I would anticipate it will be the same.”

“It is a fun environment because our boys’ (basketball) team will be down there, too,” Kraske continued. “They’ve had a great season and we are going to anticipate that they’ll have a great tournament as well.”

“It’s kind of a family atmosphere. A lot of folks from Havre come to the tournament because it’s postseason play and that’s exciting as well,” Kraske said. “There are a lot of folks in the Billings area who have Blue Pony connections that make the time to come to the gym and watch our teams play.”
