The Havre High Football team is back in town after two road games in consecutive weeks, going 1-1 in that stretch. The Blue Ponies enter Friday night’s game at (3-2) and will take on East Helena in their homecoming match.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Jake Eldridge and he gives listeners an expectation of the team that is coming in to face his.
“This is their third year in varsity,” Eldridge said. “They’ve got a bunch of good football players.”
“They’re coach well (and play) hard (and) enthusiastic,” Eldridge continued. “They mesh very well together. They do a little bit of the (run-pass option), so they put you in a tough situation as a defense with your eyes and leverage.”
“Defensively, they do a little bit of twisting up front and they play a little bit of one-high and two-high (safety) and they can mix that up as well,” Eldridge said. “They’re a formidable team; they’re going to come up here and after a great win (against Dawson County) that they had on their homecoming, so they’re going to be riding high.”
As it is homecoming, the football team will be on hand to serve the community pregame. Eldridge, who will be participating in his second homecoming as head coach, shared what it means to have the people of Havre show up to converse with him and his team.
“This a prideful community,” Eldridge said. “We’re going to be involved with the community all day and that’s how it should be. ”
“They’re big supporters of us and it’s great for us to get to see them and be with them and be able to give back in different ways,” Eldridge continued. “To have those stands packed at Blue Pony Stadium and to be back home and hopefully have a raucous crowd on Friday night.”
The homecoming festivities kick off on Friday at 1:30pm with activities in the west parking lot at Havre High followed by a parade at 3pm. Kickoff of the football game against East Helena will be at 7pm with Noah Friedman on the call from Blue Pony Stadium on KOJM-610AM.
