Havre, MT (NMB)It was an “Ocean of Possibilities” for book lovers during the Summer Reading program at the Havre-Hill County library. The Summer Reading program, which is in conjunction with the Collaborative Summer Learning project, which is designed to keep children and adults engaged in reading and learning to “keep the summer slump at bay,” according to Asley Verity, Children’s Librarian in Havre.
This year participants could track their reading minutes from June 8th through July 29th and then submit their total either in person or on the library’s Facebook page.
Veritay said this years reported minutes was double from last year.
“Last year’s total minutes was 44,593,” says Verity. “This year We had 200 signups. Twice the signup ups, twice the minutes. This year’s minutes total was 113,887.”
There is no age limit, as Verity says this year the ages ranged from three months old to adults.
“We don’t make the adults write down their age.”
Now that the Summer Reading Program has concluded for the year, Verity says events to look forward to are the Friends of the Library Book Sale, Wednesday Storytime, Thursday Block Party, and will be restarting up Saturday Matinee, what Verity calls, “Satire” Day Matinee.
Verity says she would like to see more faces at the library, even if visiting the library is not a regular activity for some people. She reminds people the library in Havre has free wi-fi, even when the library is closed.
